St. Joseph’s Welcomes Our New Principal, Tamira Chapman, M.A., Ed.

St. Joseph’s School for the Blind proudly announces the appointment of Ms. Tamira Chapman as its new principal, bringing more than two decades of experience in educational administration at both the local and state levels.

Ms. Chapman has served in leadership roles including vice principal, state coordinator, and director of a federal grant program. Her extensive background also includes working with diverse student populations, including those with multiple disabilities, providing her with a deep well of expertise to support the SJSB community.

Her connection to the school began nearly ten years ago when she first visited SJSB for the Dare to Dream statewide conference. She recalls being struck not only by the quality of the facilities but by the meaningful work being carried out by faculty and staff. Returning now as principal, she describes this opportunity as a “full-circle moment.”

In her new role, Ms. Chapman looks forward to collaborating with SJSB’s dedicated staff to build on the school’s century-long legacy of excellence and compassionate care. Her vision emphasizes continuous improvement, honoring

tradition, and ensuring that every student is empowered to thrive.

“Our goal is to ensure that when students graduate from St. Joseph’s, they are fully prepared to live life to their fullest ability—with the support and skills they need to succeed, whatever they determine success looks like,” said Ms. Chapman.

With her leadership, St. Joseph’s School for the Blind reaffirms its mission to empower students and families while preparing them for lifelong success.

Executive Director David Feinhals expressed his confidence, noting: “I am confident that Tamira’s experience in both the classroom and leadership roles—as well as her passion for advocacy—make her an ideal fit for our school.”
