Maria Mercedes Castro
This website has been made possible by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation President’s Grant Fund of the Princeton Area Community Foundation in memory of Maria Mercedes Castro.
“Maria Mercedes Castro left Cuba for the United States in 1961, where she raised four children on a seamstress’s earnings. Throughout her life, she donated modest amounts to St. Joseph’s School for the Blind because she admired its work on behalf of children with special needs. Having two children with special needs herself made her understand the importance of helping others.”
