A Day in the Life

Breakfast Time (8:00 – 8:50 A.M.)

A family style breakfast is served every morning to the children. During breakfast children are encouraged to serve themselves. This allows them to feel a sense of independence and provides a smooth transition from home to school in the beginning of the day.

Greeting Time (8:50 – 9:00 A.M.)

During Greeting Time the children join their teachers and friends at the classroom Message Board. This promotes early literacy through the use of symbols. The teachers use the message board to describe the eventsof the day by using symbols and pictures.

Small Group Time (9:00– 9:15 A.M.)

A group of 7 – 8 children meet with a teacher, at this time the children are encouraged to experiment with materials, problem solve and learn new skills. The activities are planned according to the children’s interest, needs and assessments. The children are given this opportunity to talk freely about any ideas they might have while they explore with the materials they have chosen.

Planning Time (9:15 –9:20 A.M.)

At this time of the day children are given the opportunity to set a goal. They make choices about where in the classroom they want to work and what they want to do. Children are able to carry out their plans during Work Time.

Work Time (9:20 – 10:20 A.M.)

Children work in their area of interest in the classroom. Children are encouraged to work with materials and the teachers take this opportunity to work alongside the children and observe them. The teachers   also take this opportunity to provoke language development and thought.

Clean up Time (10:20 – 10:25 A.M.)

At this time children are expected to return all materials to their proper place. This helps children develop a sense of responsibility.

Recall Time (10:25 – 10:30 A.M.)

The children reflect on what they accomplished during work time and who they worked with.

Bathroom/ Fix Cots (10:30 – 10:45 A.M.)

Teachers help the children gain independence by assisting them with putting their sheets on their cots.

Outdoor Time (10:45– 11:45 A.M.)

Everyday the children enjoy free play outdoors. During outdoor time the children are encouraged to be active by climbing, hopping, jumping, running and exploring on the play ground.

Lunch Time (12:00 – 12:30 P.M.)

Lunch is served for the children family style. The children are encouraged to be independent and serve themselves. During lunch teachers sit with the children and initiate conversations about meaningful experiences. At this time the Teacher assist children in brushing their teeth.

Nap Time (12:30 – 1:30 P.M.)

Children are given an hour to rest or engage in quiet activities. This is an important part of the day that is essential for the children’s physical and emotional growth.

SnackTime (1:30 – 1:45 P.M.)

In the afternoon the children enjoy a healthy snack with their friends.

Choice Time (1:45 – 2:10 P.M.)

The children are encouraged to choose table toys or booksof their choice. Teachers take this opportunity to observe the children and record what the children discuss about their day.

Clean up/ Bathroom (2:10– 2:15 P.M.)

Children return toys to their proper place and use the bathroom.

Large Group (2:15 – 2:45 P.M.)

At this time children come together as a class and explore by moving their bodies in different ways. During Large Group the children learn about taking turns and develop a sense of community.
